Restrictions around Australian residency requirements for scholarships is a matter for the individual universities and the student concerned. Students should discuss their eligibility for this program with their department. AMSI itself does not have any restrictions, other than the student needs to be enrolled at an AMSI member institution.

Please note that students who took past in last year’s Vacation Research Scholarship program are ineligible to apply again in 2017.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application.  Please see the Key Dates for estimated timeframe.

Please note: Due to the expected volume of applications, we are unable to provide full feedback for unsuccessful applicants.

The stipend payment is administered by the Vacation Research Scholarship student’s home university. Students should speak to the mathematical sciences office staff to arrange payment.

AMSI pays the university by invoice in two instalments:

$1,800.00 ex GST on the award of the scholarship
$900.00 ex GST on receipt of the final report and blog post
Most AMSI members have administered Vacation Research Scholarships in previous years and will be aware of this process.

As the mathematical sciences department administers payment of your stipend payments the department must confirm your research project and supervisor. (NB – your university invoices us for the cost of the scholarship on successful completion of all requirements).

If circumstances change and you need to withdraw from the Vacation Research Scholarship you should first discuss this with your supervisor. Your Head of Department and the AMSI Research and Higher Education Manager must then be notified by writing with the reasons for withdrawal as soon as your decision is confirmed. Depending on when you withdraw, this could affect your payment.

Late Submission

For your application to be considered after the closing date you must apply to AMSI for late submission at Late submission is only approved in exceptional circumstances.
