William Abbott is a Mathematical Sciences (Advanced) student at the University of Adelaide aged 19. Currently in his second year of undergraduate study William is motivated by the chance to apply the knowledge accrued in his degree so far, to understand and solve real-world problems. His interests cover a variety of topics in both applied mathematics and statistics but particularly modelling phenomena using stochastic processes. Outside of the University William is heavily involved with hockey, training and playing with the South Australian Hotshots and also enjoys a day at the beach.
Modelling Wind Farm Power Output Using Hidden Markov Models and its Implications for South Australian Wind Farms
We aim to investigate and increase the accuracy of the models explaining the fluctuation of the wind farm power output, focussing on Hidden Markov Models. Furthermore, we will evaluate the models in context of South Australian wind farms and their place in the power network.
